Expert Tips For All Drivers

Dec 27, 2021

We use our vehicles every day to get to where we need to go, so it’s important to give your car the quality care it needs to do its job. With expert advice, these maintenance tips will extend the life of your car.

The Break-In Period

So, you bought a car. Whether it’s brand new or used, the same required maintenance applies to keep it in good condition for as long as possible. For new cars, usually the first 1,000 miles are the break-in period. During this period, you’ll want to keep your speed under 55 mph and avoid heavy loads, such as towing trailers or loading your car up with heavy materials.

You’ll also want to refrain from leaving your car running while the vehicle is parked as much as possible. Leaving a car running creates unnecessary oil pressure and may not send oil to the parts of the car that oil is needed. In addition, use light acceleration and rpms below 3,000 for the first few hours of driving. Remember that caring for your vehicle shouldn’t stop after the break-in period.

Buy Gas at Reputable Service Stations

This may sound funny, but where you fill up your tank matters. Choose a gas station that filters gas at the pump and has a policy on changing pump filters regularly. Believe it or not, some stations don’t use pump filters which makes your vehicle more susceptible to dirty gasoline. Less reliable stations may even water down their product or mix alcohol and fuel incorrectly which can be very dangerous. Make sure you investigate these things and stick with a place you trust.

Choose a Good Car Insurer

Accidents can happen to anyone, no matter how safe of a driver you are. Make sure that you invest in insurance from a reliable company that will cover car repairs to the highest standards. You will want car parts from the original manufacturer to guarantee that your repairs are done correctly.

Clean the Inside

Cleaning the interior of your car is just as important as cleaning the exterior. It can be as simple as vacuuming the carpet and taking a wet sponge and soap to the cupholders and center console on a regular basis.
