Why You Should Regularly Replace Your Windshield Wipers

Mar 28, 2022

The windshield is like the eyes of the car. Without the windshield, drivers would not be able to see where they are going without getting stuff inside their eyes. It is extremely important for car owners to take care of their car’s windshield. Visibility is a key component to safe driving on the road. Your windshield wipers remove rain, sleet, snow, dirt, dust, bugs, and anything else from your line of sight while you’re driving. Take a look at the reasons why you should regularly replace your windshield wipers!

Why Should You Replace Your Wiper Blades?

Wiper blades deteriorate because of a number of environmental reasons. When in use, your windshield wipers work hard to clear away anything and everything that winds up on your windshield. Airborne debris such as dirt, dust, and sand that are carried in the wind scratch up the squeegee part of your wiper blades and can cause scratches or cracks in your windshield. The sun’s ultraviolet rays cause cracking. Car soaps and waxes as well as exhaust from other vehicles have rubber-deteriorating oils that break down the rubber components of your windshield wipers.

How Do You Know That Your Wiper Blades Need To Be Replaced?

There are a few ways to inspect your wiper blades to see if they need to be replaced. The most obvious sign is if there are any cracks, tears, or missing pieces in the wiper blade that is in plain sight. If the edges are even slightly worn down, they will not make strong contact with the windshield. You can gently pull on the arm of the wiper blade to make sure it was securely installed. In doing so, make sure the squeegee is secured to the arm. You can also flex the squeegee back and forth to make sure it is still flexible.

They should be regularly replaced every six months. As it becomes harder to see to your wipers are in use, you should start looking at wiper replacement options.
