Save On Gas With These Proven Tips

Jan 17, 2022

It’s no secret gas prices are getting out of hand, but that isn’t going to keep you from driving! It’s the only way to get around from point A to point B, from work to the grocery store, the kid’s school, extracurriculars, and social plans, we spend a lot of time in our vehicles. Every dollar counts, so be sure to read up on these tips for how to save on gas.

Drive Less

Take the road less traveled. Are you headed to the market right down the road? Or, your friend’s house a block away? Throw on your favorite walking shoes and hit the sidewalk. When you have the option to safely walk, do so. Especially in the city, it’s nice when you don’t have to worry about finding a parking spot. If you aren’t much of a walker, consider buying a bicycle.

Easy on the Acceleration

Are you one to accelerate drastically? If so, accelerating too slow or too fast will cost you. Your car is most fuel-efficient when the top gears are in use, so when you take a long time to accelerate, it spends too much time in the lower gears, causing your vehicle to waste fuel.

Have Your Vehicle Serviced

One of the best ways to ensure your vehicle isn’t wasting gas is by having it serviced regularly. The next time you visit an auto service center, have them do the following:

  • Tire Inflation: Check out your vehicle’s owner manual to find out what your vehicle’s tire pressure should be at.
  • Motor Oil: Have you been doing your oil change with just what you can find in your garage? That could be costing you. Visit a trusted auto center to find out what motor oil is best for your vehicle.
  • Tune-Ups: If you want optimal fuel economy, items from your ignition need to be replaced. An example would be your spark plug.
  • Air Filter: If your engine is not receiving proper airflow, that will also affect fuel efficiency. Changing out your air filter is easy and inexpensive!
