Although the warm weather lasts quite a while here in Texas, fall is on its way! Make sure that your car is ready for the new season with this quick car care checklist.
Check the Battery
Hot weather – which we have plenty of here in San Antonio! – can cause car batteries to die quicker, so it’s important to check your battery level as the hot weather is winding down. If your battery is dying and needing to be jumped frequently, it’s likely a sign that the battery needs to be replaced. We can run a battery test here at Red McCombs Body Shop to help you assess if you need a new battery or another repair.
This summer was a doozy, so it’s a good idea to have your HVAC system inspected before the cooler temperatures arrive to ensure that everything is as it should be. If you’re already noticing issues with your AC, it could mean further issues this winter. The last thing you want on a cold January morning is a car that won’t heat up, so be sure to have your trusted technician at Red McCombs Superior Body shop inspect your HVAC system sooner rather than later.
Check the Oil
If your last oil change was earlier this summer, you may be due for another oil change now that it’s almost fall. Though some cars can go more than 5,000 miles between oil changes, it’s still a good idea to check your oil levels every 3,000 – 5,000 miles so that you can ensure you always have a high supply of fresh oil. Regular oil-level checks will also help you catch any bigger issues – like an oil leak – before they get serious and cause more damage.
Check Coolant Level
The coolant helps keep your engine from overheating, and it is especially important in the summer months when the weather is hot, too. Now that the hot weather is on its way out, check the coolant to make sure it is bright red, blue, green, or yellow. If the coolant appears dull and rusty, sludgy, or low, bring your car in to have the coolant inspected by our team at Red McCombs Superior Body Shop.
